Description:
Crime of the Century – the third studio album of the British prog rock band Supertramp, released in 1974. This is the band’s first album in “classical” composition and with producer Ken Scott (English Ken Scott), who previously worked with David Bowie and The Beatles.
The CD was recorded in several studios, including Ramport Studios, owned by The Who, and Trident Studios. Rick Davis and Roger Hodgson recorded about 42 demos, of which only 8 were selected. Some of them appeared on the following albums of the band (Crisis? What Crisis ?, “… Famous Last Words …”).
Many of the album’s songs (“School”, “Bloody Well Right”, “Rudy” and the title track) were constantly performed at concerts. Almost all the compositions were included in the Parisian concert album of 1980, where original orchestrations in “Asylum”, “Rudy”, and “Crime of the Century” were replaced by synthesizers. These parties were mostly performed by John Helliwell and Roger Hodgson.
Crime of the Century was the band’s first album to hit the Top 40 albums in America and in 1977, after the release of “Even in the Quietest Moments”, which received the status of gold.
The disc was first re-released (with remastering) on a gold CD and vinyl by MFSL. Another remastered CD version of the album was released in 1997 and later, in 2002, both editions – A & M Records.
